The Story

'Singin' in the Rain' is based in 1927. The silent movies' biggest stars Don Lockwood and Lina Lamont greet their adoring public after the triumphant premiere of The Royal Rascal. Walking to an after show party Don meets a stranger, Kathy Seldon, waiting by a bus stop.

At the after show party RF Simpson, the owner of Monument Pictures, gives a demonstration of talking pictures , dismissing it as a gimmick. Kathy is revealed as a showgirl bursting out of a cake. Annoyed by Don's taunts she misdirects a cream cake into Lina's face.

During filming Lina, Jealous boasts that she has arranged for Kathy to be fired. Then disaster, the first talking picture was a huge hit. RF stops filming and insists that the Dueling Cavalier is to become a talkie, Lina though beautiful has the speaking voice of a strangled cat.

Lina fails miserably at diction lessons as Don takes it all in his stride, So it was decided to use Kathy's voice instead of Lina's. The premier is a huge hit, but Lina relying on her contract declares that Kathy is to continue to be her voice in future films. Lina insists on addressing her public and when they demand she sing, Kathy is forced to cover for her behind the theatre curtains. However Don, Cosmo and RF have other ideas........

Chairman's Message

Welcome to Wrexham Musical Theatre Society's production of Singin' in the Rain. We are delighted to be the first senior musical society to perform at the refurbished Stiwt, which has only reopened, due to the determination of the people of Rhos to raise the money and obtain lottery funding. The result is self evident, with the ambience and wonderful feeling of being in a REAL theatre.

Most people remember Singin' In the Rain for the Gene Kelly scene, dancing on a street in the middle of a rainstorm. I am sure that you will not be disappointed tonight, as no matter what the weather does in Rhos, it will be pouring down in the Stiwt.

I would like to thank all the people who have made this production possible and you our audience for your support. Enjoy the show and have a safe journey home.

RAY KAVANAGH - Chairman
